A new tradition to the annual Corgi Walk is being launched with the designation of David Frei as the first Grand Marshal of the event. David and one of his dogs, Grace, will lead the parade walk on its 1.5-mile path through the Pearl District.
New York Magazine once called David Frei “probably the most famous human in the world of canines.” He is well known to millions of television viewers as the “Voice of the Westminster Kennel Club,” where he co-hosted the USA Network’s annual telecast of that world-famous dog show for 27 years. He continues to co-host NBC’s “The National Dog Show” presented by Purina each Thanksgiving Day.
As such, he has made many appearances on network television shows, including The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View, Fox & Friends, Martha Stewart, and Rachel Ray. David’s adventures with the Westminster Best in Show winners have taken him to visit the White House, to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, and to ride on a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
David is most proud of the wonderful work that his own dogs do as therapy dogs for his charity, regularly visiting the Ronald McDonald House in New York, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the VA Medical Center in New York. His second award-winning book, Angel On A Leash, chronicles his work and observations in the world of therapy dogs and his life with dogs.
David works full-time for NBC Sports as a consultant, currently helping develop a new show, the Beverly Hills Dog Show, which he will co-host on USA and NBC on Easter 2017. A native of Oregon, David and his wife, Cherilyn, now reside in Seaside, Oregon.
